The 2012-2013 Winter Track season kicked off for West Potomac
this Saturday at Episcopal High School in a tri-meet with Oakton and Mt.
Vernon. It was a tight three way battle
in the girls competition, and the Lady Wolverines ended up placing second (just
4 points behind the winner Oakton). In
the boys team standings Oakton was the decisive winner, however West Potomac
had a number of strong performances from the boys’ team.
The Wolverines placed first in 5 events. West Potomac claimed first in both 3200m relays,
with the girls’ team running 11:50.14 and the boys team clocking in at
9:31.84. Individual event winners were
sophomore Lozie Goolsby (HJ, 5’10”), junior captain Luca Halladay (1600m,
4:46.54) and senior captain Lauren Price (1000m, 3:12.74). Both Goolsby and Price came away with District
qualifying marks.
There were a number of athletes adding to the team score on
the track and in the field events. On
the boys side there were runner-up finishes from Brennan Vaughan (Triple Jump),
Colin Davis (Shot Put), and Goolsby (500m).
Second place finishers for the Lady Wolverines were Anna Smith (High
Jump), Kristi Snow (1000m), Sophia Passacantando (1600m) and both the 800m and
1600m relays. Placing third in their
respective events were Nick McCobb (55 hurdles), freshman Brad Schaefer (55m
dash), Mychelle Gyamfi (55m dash) and Katie Murray (1600m).
Up next for the team will be the Ram Invitational.
