Both West Potomac teams finished third in the Polar Bear
meet against Robinson, South Lakes and Paul VI, which could easily be named
‘Battle of the Blue’. There were a
number of qualifying performances registered as the Wolverines competed
outdoors in favorable weather.
Sophomore Lozie Goolsby was a double winner in the 500m,
as he qualified for Districts, as well as placing first in the High Jump (5’6”)
for the second week in a row. Returning All-Region runner junior Katie Genuario
opened her season up with a victory in the 1000m and took care of District
qualifying. Senior captain Sophia
Passacantando was also in the 1000m as she placed third and barely missed the
District standard.
It was a good day for the Wolverines in the 500m and High
Jump, as sophomore Kristi Snow placed second in the girls 500m and her time of
1:20.56 was less than half a second off of the Regional standard. In the girls High Jump the Lady Wolverines
had two teammates tie for runner-up, as juniors Kelly Slatery and Anna Smith
both cleared 4’4”. This was the second
week in a row Smith placed in the top two of the High Jump.
The highest placing relay for West Potomac was the boys
4x400m relay (Corey Rosenberg, Crispin Bernier, Luca Halladay and David Cate),
that placed second. Bernier, Rosenberg and Halladay teamed up to
run fast in the 1000m, as Bernier was third and just missed the Regional
cut. All three boys set new personal
bests in the 1000m and took care of the District standard.
Taking advantage of the warmer temperatures and 400m
outdoor track the Wolverines had a number of personal best performances
registered. In just the second meet of
the season the team has already demonstrated significant improvement from a
week ago and we are looking forward to seeing you all progress throughout the
rest of the season!
Next up for West Potomac is a
week off from competition (don’t forget to sign up for Christmas Tree
sales!!!). The Wolverines will next
compete with a split squad as some will go to the Friday, December 21st
Tri-Meet at Thomas Jefferson Middle Community Center and others at Saturday,
December 22nd =PR= Holiday Invitational.
