F.I.T. Invitational: Genuario Regionally Qualifies in 3200m

The Wolverines competed in their third and final meet of Winter Break, closing out 2012 with many athletes setting new personal bests.  There were over 30 teams participating in the F.I.T. Invitational and West Potomac had three competitors place in the top 6.

Junior Katie Genuario notched her second Regional qualifying mark of the season, running her 3200m in 11:22.52.  Genuario was over 30 seconds faster than her time from last year's meet, and placed 4th overall.  Also competing strong for the Lady Wolverines was Lauren Price, who was 6th in the 1000m and within a second of her season best.  Junior Kelly Slatery cleared 4-6 in the High Jump and had a new season best in the 55m hurdles with a 10.27.

Leading the way for the boys team was senior Corey Rosenberg, who leaned out for 4th place in the 1000m.  Rosenberg's 2:40.97 is a new indoor personal best, and just off his time from the polar bear meet earlier this season.

The rest of the team will return to competition on January 12th in a polar bear meet at Lake Braddock.

There were a total of 5 individual victories for the Lady Wolverines, who were able to claim first place despite not fielding a single relay.  Nikki Amico was a double winner, as she claimed victories in the 1600m and 3200m, doubling back to run a very strong race and new personal best in the 3200.  Senior Marjorie Woods took first in the 300m and also was second place in the 55m dash.  Sophomore Anna Lorentzen won the 500m and freshman Meredith Barber came in first in the 1000m.

In the 55m hurdles the Lady Wolverines took the 2nd and 3rd place spot with Tanah Kaisa (2nd) and Kirsteen Bueno (3rd).  In the girls 1600m West Potomac swept the first three places, after Amico were Kelsey O’Hern (2nd) and Zoe Smith (3rd).  Freshman Laura Powell had the strongest race of her season and placed second in the girls 1000m.  In the girls shot put Martha Bervell (2nd) and Sarah Strizalka (4th) placed well to score for the team.

On the boys side West Potomac came away with two individual victories: Nick McCobb in the 55m hurdles and Joseph Leonard in the 3200m.  McCobb led the way for a 1-2 finish in the 55m hurdles with Dominic Osafoh placing second.  The boys 3200m also saw a 1-2 finish with freshmen Carter Sibley moving up during the second half to finish runner-up to Leonard.

The boys 500m had the Wolverines finish 2-3-4 with Samuel James, Tyler McCobb and Moises Romero all running strong and score.  James also placed 3rd in the 300m.  In the 1600m sophomore Shreyak Khanal was 2nd, just ahead of 3rd place finisher freshman John Whitney.  Junior Brian Spitnale came in 2nd in the 1000m, with teammate Jeff Ryscavage closing fast to take the 4th place spot.
