The Wolverines travelled to the site of this year’s
Northern Region Championships (Robinson Secondary School) and competed in the
Northern Virginia Invitational. Over the
course of the two day invitational there were a total of three Regional qualifying
performances and six District qualifying performances for the West Potomac Track
& Field program.
Once again junior Mychael Gyamfi led the way for the boys
team, winning the Boys Discus in a new personal best of 142-03. Gyamfi’s mark qualifies him for Regionals and
currently ranks him first in the District.
In addition to his impressive results in the Discus, Gyamfi qualified
for Districts on the track in the 100m and 200m and improved his District qualifying
mark in the Shot Put to 43-04. Sophomore
Lozie Goolsby also qualified for Regionals in the 400m with a new personal best
of 50.95 after finishing 5t, he also placed 5th in the
High Jump. The Wolverines added District
qualifiers in the Long Jump (Diemorney Pierson-El 8th in 20-01), 800m (Corey
Rosenberg 10th in 2:01.53), and the 1600m (Luca Halladay 11th
in 4:29.77).
The Lady Wolverines had a regional qualifying performance
from junior Katie Genuario in the 3200m.
Genuario moved up throughout the race to place 6th in a very
fast field, her time of 11:23.34 was a solid opener. Freshman Meredith Barber placed in the top
10 of her event after finishing 9th out of 40 girls in the Freshmen
1600 and lowering her personal best by 8 seconds.
Up next for the West Potomac Track & Field program is
their Quad Meet against South County, W.T. Woodson and Lake Braddock on April
17th at South County. To see
