September 19 Quad Meet Recap; Shreyak Khanal is top finisher for the boys and Natalie Babuich for the girls

The Wolverines continue to show progress during the 2012 cross-country season after several standout performances during this week’s Quad Meet against West Springfield, W.T. Woodson and Lake Braddock.  The girls were 4th and the boys finished 3rd and were both led by sophomores enjoying their first season of cross country.

The West Potomac boys finished 3rd at the September 19 Quad Meet

Leading the way for the boys was Shreyak Khanal, who put himself in the front pack early on and never looked back.  Khanal finished 3rd overall in a time of 17:35.  Next in for the team was freshmen Carter Sibley running a smart race to move up to 11th and dip under 18 minutes (17:50).  Sophomore Jeff Rsycavage was nearly a minute faster than his performance from last year, placing 17th overall with a time of 18:07.  Junior David Cate (19th, 18:12) and freshmen Ben Slobodin (20th, 18:28) made sure that all top 5 scoring Wolverines were in the top 20.  Cross country newcomers sophomore Alex McDonald (21st, 18:29) and freshman John Whitney (25th, 18:39) had nice races to round out the team’s top 7 for the day.
The girls finished 4th at the Quad Meet

On the girls side it was Natalie Babiuch outkicked her competition in the final straightaway to snag a runner-up finish in an impressive time of 20:42.  Sophomore Anna Lorentzen was the next Lady Wolverine across the line as she placed 12th with a 14 second improvement from last year.  Freshmen Lauren Airey (18th, 21:45) and sophomore Zoe Smith (19th, 21:50) cracked into the top 20 and junior Kelsey O’Hern rounded out the score in 22nd place as her time of 22:02 was a minute faster than her 2011 performance.  Next in for the Lady Wolverines were sophomore Juliette Lash (33rd, 22:51) and freshman Meredith Barber (37th, 23:00).

All Wolverine finishers are listed with time and place under the Team Files page.  Great job to all the competitors and we are excited by the improvements we continue to see thanks to all your hard work.
