It’s the End of An Era: West Po Athletes Excel in the Last Northern Region Championship Meet; Girls 4 x 800, Genuario, Davis, Goolsby and Gyamfi Compete at States!

The West Potomac Outdoor Track and Field squad finished up the season with some great performances in the last Northern Region Championship meet – and the final AAA state competition. Next year, the Virginia High School League (VHSL) will be reorganized, meaning those “Northern Region Champions” banners will likely be available for fire sale prices!

The Northern Region meet - held May 23-24 at Robinson High School – was both exhilarating and heartbreaking for our West Po competitors. The girls 4 x 800 relay of Sophia Passacantando, Lauren Price, Katie Genaurio and Meredith Barber qualified for the State Meet with a 3rd place finish and a season best time of 9:43:04. The boys 4 x 800 of Luca Halladay, Cullen O’Boyle, Corey Rosenberg and Crispin Bernier just missed qualifying for States by finishing fourth, despite a very quick time of 8:05.74, close to the state auto qualifying standard.

In the individual events, Katie Genuario qualified for States with a third place finish in the 3200 meter run. Ke’Shaun Davis punched her ticket to States with a sixth place finish in the 100 yard dash.

Complete results for the Northern Region Championships can be found here.

The girls 4 x800, Genaurio and Davis joined Lozie Goolsby  (high jump) and Mychael Gyamfi (discus) – who had previously qualified to compete at the last Virginia AAA Track and Field Championships.

Todd Stadium in Newport News VA was hot and humid this past weekend but our athletes gave it their all. Leading the way for the Wolverines was Katie Genaurio who finished 13th in the 3200m run. The Girls 4 x 800 finished 16th. Lozie Goolsby was 19th in the high jump. Mychael Gyamfi was 19th in the discus, and Ke'Shaun Davis was 24th in the 100m dash preliminary round.

Complete results for the State Meet can be found here.
