West Potomac placed 7th in the girls team
scores and 10th in the boys team competition at this year’s Nike
Spring Invitational. The Wolverines made
the most of the evening meet, with athletes continuing to improve as the team
gears up for the championships season in less than two weeks. Mychael Gyamfi led the way as he became the
first member of both teams to qualify for states this season, winning the
Discus with a new personal best of 153-00.

Leading the way for the girls team was Katie Genuario,
who almost became the second member of the team to qualify for states. Genuario lowered her regional qualifying time
down to 11:15 and was only 2 seconds shy of states. Ke’Shaun Davis was 2nd in the 100m
and also lowered her regional mark down to 12.60 and came back to finish 4th
in the 200m.
Placing in the top six for the boys team was freshmen
Brad Schaefer, who was second in the Freshmen 100m. Lozie Goolsby was second in the High Jump as
he improved his regional mark to 6’2” and also placed fourth in the 400m.

Up next for the Wolverines will be the Southern Track
Classic in Richmond, VA, where the accepted entries for West Potomac are
Mychael Gymafi in the Discus and the girls and boys 4x800m relays. The last invitational is May 11, the TJ
Penultimate, which will serve as a last chance qualifier before Districts.
